The idea

The enzymes that clear drugs from your body vary by ancestry, and the panels that predict drug response were largely calibrated elsewhere. A gene variant common in South Asians can turn a standard dose of a chemotherapy drug, a statin, or a blood thinner into the wrong dose, and the standard test can come back falsely reassuring because it was looking at the wrong gene. The fix is knowing which genes matter for whom.
